SeaMaids
Bikini Shop
Award
Winner: The surfing world of the North Shore of O‘ahu is a
place of a certain “look and feel.” Our client wanted
to fit into the neighborhood and follow the “keep country
country” guidelines of the community. And, because the county
holds the right to reclaim the land for other uses, the businesses
there face being asked to relocate. SeaMaids came to Hawaii Modular
Space, Inc. for a solution. We provided a stock rental fleet 10x24
modular office. To meet the design criteria for the area, she designed
a “grass hut” which was accepted enthusiastically by
the community. The modular office solution, combined with SeaMaid’s
clever design, was recognized with the top award in its category
by the Modular Building Institute.
Modular
construction allowed SeaMaids to launch a small business that could
be moved. The modular office uses blocks and piers on the existing
grade, eliminating expensive site foundation work. The community
board was pleased because there was no concrete installation, no
disruption of the existing landscape, and no noise from construction.
The office was delivered, positioned, and installed within 4 hours.
SeaMaids was in business in 6 days after delivery.
A site-build
contractor quoted SeaMaids $135 per square foot, higher than anticipated.
By going with a modular office unit, she was able to construct her
“grass hut” exterior and a completed project for $78
per square foot. The block & pier foundation would allow for
easy moving.
